Good Night Princess

On September 2nd 2015 at 8:30 PM, my beloved kitty Starz had a heart attack in the middle of playing with her favorite toy. She did not make it. Starz was fifteen years old. She'd been with me most of my life and practically all of hers. I miss her so much that I'm almost physically ill.

On September 3rd 2015 at 5 PM, I adopted Jenny from the nearby Humane Society. She cannot replace Starz. No creature can. But she can make it easier for me to adjust to life without my best furry friend. She needed me and I needed her.

I drew this for some self therapy, and because I like to think that Starz is okay with all of this.

So Much Fanart + Chapter Four Begins

Another update and it didn't take two months! Hopefully that will be continual from now on. Over the week I've been doing a lot of Attack on Titan fan art for an event on Tumblr, which are below. I've also resumed adding textless pages from my webcomic to my portfolio blog, since I'm trying to improve the quality. Here is the actual comic page, and the page without text is here.

Back Again

It's been months since the last time I made an entry, and I apologize. At least it's not for a lack of drawing. The webcomic is still going strong, and chapter four is scheduled to start on Friday. I haven't been putting the pages on my portfolio blog because they didn't feel high quality enough, but here is a link to the comic all the same. Once chapter four starts I'll probably start including Previous Page links in the description as well as a jump to the first page.

As for other art, I've been doing this and that on the side when I can. The comic takes a lot of energy however, so unrelated bouts of creative energy are few and far between. All the same, I figured I'd upload a few of the things I've done lately. There seems to be a running theme of Attack on Titan fanart, including an art experiment of what Levi might look like if he were black...

Oh, Hi There

So I realize it's been over a month since I posted anything here. Sorry! Though all of the comic links have been continually been posted on Facebook and other social media. We're now in chapter three and headed fast to chapter four!

Here's the webcomic link in case anyone needs it.

Also here's some miscellaneous art from the past moth. Hopefully I'll do better about updating this blog now!

Comic Page Backlog + Sketches

It's been over a month since I posted anything here, and I deeply apologize. Mostly I've been churning out comic pages with a little sketching here and there.

Here is the webcomic link for those who might have lost it.

Here is my portfolio blog that has pages without text.

And finally here's some character design experiments that I did. They are completely unrelated to the webcomic and were a bit of a joint effort with a friend. She told me about what she envisioned and I tried to draw it. Good practice.

This guy was tough and it took a while to draw him just how she wanted, but the challenge was fun.

This one was comparably easier as she actually had an exact photo reference, but the challenge was giving her short hair and a fabulous, sassy face without her looking like Ursula from The Little Mermaid. The pencil sketch at the bottom is the final.

Hopefully there will be less time between this and my next blog update.

Finally Something Else

Rose With Thorns updated today as usual, and as usual here is my portfolio entry that has the page without text, as well as a link to the page itself.

This week, however, I am pleased to announce that I finally drew and colored something that is in no way related to the webcomic. It was 100% for fun. It's fan art of course, and Role-play related as it often is. If you want an explanation bad enough you can ask but I'll go ahead and say that the characters are from Attack on Titan and Blue Exorcist. Also including the progress pictures, because it's been a while since that happened, too.

The Pages Just Keep Coming

I am doing a poor job of updating this blog every week with a comic page, so my apologies there. I think it's partly that since I post links to it on all my other social networking websites most people see it anyway. Also I don't always have an unrelated drawing to show. That's something else I'd like to work on.

The unrelated sketch this time was a birthday present for a friend. Her birthday is not technically until the 3rd, but she received her package and the drawing yesterday so I can post it without ruining any surprises. It's an RP-related thing with characters from Blue Exorcist and Attack on Titan.

Here are pages One an Two from Chapter Two of Rose With Thorns, which started on March 20th, and of course a link to my portfolio blog, which has both pages without text.

Satisfaction Tastes Good

Today marks the completion of the first chapter of Rose With Thorns! I am stoked to have completed one chapter, only ten pages though it was. The last page is up and can be found here. There's no textless version of the page this time, since there's no speech bubbles on it anyway.

Also Thatch's color guide is done! I've concluded that these color sheets have little to do with their face design. Neither he nor Rose look right on theirs. But the outfit and the colors are there for me to use, and that's really all I need.

Random Update: This Was A Bad Idea

Over the past week or so I've been working on Chapter 2 of Rose With Thorns. To be honest I've been dreading it because there will be at least three complex backgrounds for just this chapter, at least one of which I am unlikely to use again. It's tempting to have a majority of the story take place somewhere easy to draw but I'd rather not put a cap on creativity.

So here's my first real obnoxious setting, a playground. A photo of the playground outside my apartment was used as a guide.

I also started something that I've been meaning to; a color/outfit chart for Thatch. He'll make his debut in Chapter 3 but I'd like to be ready for that. Hopefully he'll be finished on Friday and uploaded with the last page of Chapter 2.

I AM TIRED

Just thought I'd make that announcement.

Also Page 9 is up! Chapter One is almost over! You can see the clean version of the page here.

Over the last week while I took an art hiatus on the webcomic, I did some free time sketching on paper. It was wonderful.

More Tadashi and some Attack on Titan art.

Tadashi is Here; So Are Comic Pages

Oh gosh it's only been two weeks since my last update. Sorry about that! At least if you're following my Twitter or Tumblr or I know you on Facebook you've seen seeing comic pages at least. Frankly that's about all I've been doing. However since I'm done drawing for Chapter 1, I'm going to take a break from comic pages until a few days into March.

Since it is Friday and the comic has updated, here is a link to Page 7 and Page 8 (current). And as always, here's my portfolio blog with the clean pages.

And since it's not -too- spoiler-y, here's a little teaser for Page 9!
Yes, the first half of the blog title is related to Disney's latest feature release Big Hero 6. Again, I've been trying to wrap my head around drawing Tadashi. Here are my second and third attempts. I'm not going to say much about the scars other than they're not official. And I also didn't draw them that well. Still learning.

Doodly-Doo and Page 6

Page six of the webcomic is up! You can read it here! If you want to see the clean page without text, it can be found on my portfolio blog here.

Alas most of the art I did over the week was just comic pages, so I'm not going to post those. Another thing was a gift for a friend but that one's a secret. The only other thing I have to show is a practice doodle of Tadashi from Big Hero 6. I won't go into detail about the scars because it would be a huge spoiler.

A Thing Called Life (And There's Art, Too)

I could have sworn that I've been updating this every time a new comic page comes out. Apparently I was wrong. So here's Pages 3, 4, and 5, and the portfolio entry with the textless pages.

Now for some bad news. Over a week ago my laptop's fan stopped working. Naturally it was the laptop with all my art programs and files. I attempted to fix the fan and the laptop promptly died completely. I still have all of my files because I took my hard drive out, but now I am waiting for my new laptop to arrive. Hopefully it will be here Monday and I can pick up where I left off on drawing page 6. If not, Page 6 is going to be delayed. So here's praying that it comes on time.

And finally, during the week I had the motivation to do some sketching, which turned into some form of Attack on Titan fanart - my favorite character Hanji as a man. Don't think about it too hard.

In Case You Missed It

Since everyone who follows this blog also follows me on other websites (I assume), you all probably saw the webcomic's update on the 16th. But just in case, here's page 2.

And while we're here, here's a few sketches I did over the week:

Armin Arlert from Attack on Titan as a get well gift for a friend.

Some role-play related sketches of Shiro the Dragon King

Personal re-design of Honey Lemon for Disney's Big Hero 6 movie. I was pretty disappointed that they basically took Rapunzel and gave her a tan and glasses.

What's His Face

Though I technically don't have a weekly art goal anymore, I still want to do as many drawings as I can that aren't comic pages or covers. A lot of them will be concept art for the comic since it's a huge project, but there will also be things that aren't.

This week is for Rose With Thorns, however. It's the third of my main characters, whose name so far is just... Thatch. Possibly his last name. I don't even know. He made a few varying appearances in this blog last year but I think his design is finally nailed down.

It's important that I state that he is not Rose's love interest. She isn't going to have one. As it stands, no one is. I want to try a different route and emphasize platonic and familial relationships in this story.

Dive, Dive! (Also Sketches)

Today my webcomic has officially launched! You can read it here.

Each week I will also post the corresponding page 'clean' (no text) on my portfolio blog here.

Don't worry, I'll include those in an update for this blog every week too. ;) Save you all some work.

I'll also post whatever else I sketch or draw on this blog at least once a week, so it won't fall into just being a promotion website. In fact, here's a couple sketches I did while warming up to work on the first four pages:

Attack on Titan fanart: Young Erwin Smith and his dad (who has no official name)

Blue Exorcist fanart: Shiemi being adorable

2015's Starter Pistol

You haven't heard from me on this blog since New Year's Eve, so I'd say it's time you had a little update.

My hope is to officially publish the first page of the comic on Friday, January 9th. It will be a weekly production with one page per week (with a few exceptions). Since December 31st I've been working on these feverishly hoping to have four pages and some sort of cover art done by the publishing date so I'll be ahead. So far, so good.

Just to tease, here's some small screenshots of the first 3 pages, without their text. The third page teaser isn't quite done being drawn yet, but I decided I'd share anyway. It's alright if they're too small for you to see what's happening exactly. That was the idea. ;)
