Week 13: Underwhelming Completion

After last week's lack of background or anything remotely exciting as far as the pose went, it would have been nice if this week had resulted in something that at least had the page fully covered if not a little more perspective. Alas, we conclude Week 13 with something that, once again, I lost interest in part way through. But it is finished, and that's what matters I suppose.

Part of the reason I lost interest was because of the clay-working that I started doing on Tuesday and tried out again last night. A different kind of cake resulted, but a cake all the same.

Week 13: Progress 3 - Cell Block Tango

Actually, this has nothing to do with that number from "Chicago" but after listening to it a couple of times today it's stuck in my head. But yes, base colors and a little shading down. Probably going to finish tomorrow. In fact, it would have been finished today, but I found myself making eight of these, too:

(The cake slice, not the doll)

Week 13: Progress 2 - Cut Down

You know it's going to be rough when the picture looks better the more you crop it down.

Also, I couldn't update last night because Firefox crashed about when I was trying and I couldn't be bothered to go for it again. I went to bed.

Week 13: Mr. And Mrs. Curtis

Up until late this morning my brain was devoid of any ideas for this week's project. Then while browsing Netflix for something to watch/use as background noise while I went about packing and cleaning, I discovered that the website has "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood" streaming.

Since the first few episodes are rather similar to the original series and follow the manga up to as far as I've read (not far), I worked while they played through. Going through the series is quite a nostalgia trip, and put me in the mood to draw my favorite character from the franchise, Izumi. And naturally, being my favorite, she's woefully under-rated. Her husband is, too, so I (sorta) added him in the background there.

For this week I'm using another stock image. This one here: Zuzo 21 by WW-Stock

Yes, that is a meat cleaver in her hand. Why?

Week 12: Done

Okay, hopefully that's good enough for everyone else, because it works for me. Really, the point was to get this character down on paper because I'd be able to relate to him more in role play if I had a visual. His droid, AK-47 (yes, that was deliberate) probably won't be drawn any time soon considering how well mechanical details and I get along (see "not at all").

Also, I'm glad that my Star Wars-loving friends are enjoying this week's installment. That factor gave me more motivation to at least color it.

Week 12: Progress 5: Slightly Less "Meh"

Okay, not quite done, but the shading is in. Will be tidying up and adding highlights in Photoshop later. Also, no background this week.

Week 12: Progress 4: Meh

I almost gave up on this, but my mom, aunt, and uncle told me I'd better finish it. It's not done yet, but the base colors are down now.

Week 12: Progress 3

Inked now, and fixed the commlink as well as his hand. Also, he looks rather... off... without something around his face, so I added a semi-transparent headdress. It makes him look a little more "him" I think.

How I'm going to color this remains a mystery, with my bag of drying out markers and all.

Week 12: Progress 2

Okay, that's better. Will look up a proper communicator and re-draw his hand accordingly.

Week 12: Progress 1 - Star Warsin'

So while I'm not a huge Star Wars nerd, I do find it entertaining and I'll jump at the chance for a good Role Playing Game. This is the reason for Week 12's subject matter; my character for a campaign being run by a friend of mine. He might not look terribly familiar yet but it is, in fact, Kenjo, turned into a Twi'lek for the sake of the game.

I think he has a communication... thing that he's using because I can't think of a better reason for his hand to be up there. I am using a stock photo for the pose, but I'll post it with my next update.

Week 11: "To Have and To Hold"

Some days it feels like the typed part of this blog is... quite uninteresting. So today, just enjoy the pretty (finished) picture.

Week 11: Progress 05: Wardrobe

Was considering finishing it completely today, but all that fabric I had to work with took it out of me. Oh well, that means saving the skin and hair for tomorrow (my favorite parts!). Wasn't planning on eliminating the outlines, but I made the layer invisible once for the heck of it and it looked pretty good.

Week 11: Progress 03 - Fill-In

Okay, I'm not done working on this for the day, but I did a lot this morning. It's coming together a lot more than I expected. Um... that's all I've got for this entry, really.

Music: was watching "Chicago" as unfitting as it is.

Week 11: Progress 02 - Jump

There, see? Updated. I actually inked it with pen before re-"inking" it in photoshop. ...I also just realized that I forgot to re-ink the ring pillow that Sebastain's holding. Oh well. Tomorrow.

Music: None, watching Top Gear with the family.

Week 11: Progress 01 - Better Late Than Never

Despite my delay in posting, this drawing was, in fact, started yesterday and this is everything I did with it yesterday. I inked it later, and I'll post that either later this evening or tomorrow morning.

I'm actually doing the same characters I did fro Week 9, surprisingly. My friend and I spent a while planning their RP wedding and put too much effort in for me to not illustrate it somehow. Might as well start it while the inspiration's still strong.

Week 10: Completed

And there we have it. One ornery young couple in Bonnie and Clyde (ish) get-up. There were times that I was rather worried about it working out but things turned out fine. Also, I think the portrait of my Dad that I did for Week 8 was very helpful in reminding me how to present skin, specifically in Photoshop.

Pity I don't have more to say. This was a lot of work.

Week 10: Progress 5: Eyefull

Hopefully the blurring and a couple of blur-related filters were enough to tone down the background and make it not drown out the characters. Also, aside from taking care of the shading and highlights it's a bit more obvious that they're not suspended on random blue lines. It's probably a cement wall of some kind. Texture and shading is coming for that tomorrow. In fact, it'll probably be finished tomorrow. Yay!

Week 10: Progress 4 - Of Light and Dark

Pushing right along, but still not doing their faces because I had a ways to go yet. I'm using their faces as a reward for myself to do towards the end. Sort of like when you do a puzzle it's best to do your least favorite parts first. Also, I now have a background! I'll be inserting "Buildings 02" from the Stock Photo section of DeviantArt. Yes, another city, but I didn't have to draw this one. I will, however, be blurring and filtering it a lot so that doesn't overwhelm the characters.

Music: "Action" playlist, repeated "Bonnie & Clyde" by Die Toten Hosen a few times.

Week 10: Progress 3 - Grayscale Wardrobe

Naturally, all the actual photos of Bonnie and Clyde are in black and white, which of course means I have no idea what color their clothes actually were in those photos (except that Clyde's suit was most likely black) . But you know what, that works pretty well, considering that there are very few colors that Bit's skin and hair look good with. Gray is one of them.

Obviously I'm still lacking in a background and I don't want to draw another cityscape. I'm considering either browsing DeviantArt's stock photos for one or taking a photo from some fitting vantage point at school tomorrow. Probably the former, since I don't exactly live in a place that suits these characters at all.

Music: Mixed CD

Week 10: Progress 2 - Skin-deep

Okay, so I didn't accomplish as much on this yesterday as I had planned. Primarily because I still don't know what to do with the background and I didn't want to get too carried away on the figures before I at least started sketching it out. At least I was able to correct some anatomy errors with the actual outlines.

Week 10: Progress 1 - Futuristic Outlaws

This week's going to be another digital conquest since, as I mentioned a few times last week, my markers are all drying up and I currently lack the replacement funds. Besides, this one's going to be more complicated and have an actual background, so the option of layers will probably be best.

Also, this will be my first week with a repeat character. Bit from Week 1's art is making a come-back, and bringing her boyfriend, Hax with her this time. This will be his first time as more than just a conceptual head sketch, so here's hoping that goes well.

They'll be dressed like Bonnie and Clyde. Because that's just awesome.

Not as much as I normally do on Day 1 with digital work, but I slept in a strange position last night and my neck is killing me. I also have no painkillers in my house because I prefer buying stomach medicine. Boo.

Music: Nickleback

Week 9 - Completion

And there we go! Colors adjusted and lazy background thrown in. ...I'm tired.

Week 9 - Progress 6

Just uploading the basic colors. Will be doing adjustments in Photoshop and adding a cheap background. I feel like I deserve something easy after last week.

Week 9 - Progress 5

Again, not much to say other than that this is the last time I'll be coloring with mainly markers on a picture for quite a while. Even my skin tones are on their way out and the kind of markers I use are relatively pricey.

Week 9 - Progress 4

It's kinda sad that I really don't have much to say this week, but I guess that's just the kind of week it is.
