Okay, This One's All Voltron

Last winter the official Voltron website hosted an art contest for fans to design a monster for Voltron to fight. A great artist and really great gal who goes by "Zilla" won and to congratulate her I draw Shiro with her "beast's" innocent default, "Pillbug" because he's adorable.

You can see him here.

This time around the Voltron characters all have official birthdays! We don't know all of them, but they're revealed as they come. Hunk's was January 13th. I love him (and all the characters) so for his birthday I gave him a small, cuddle-sized version of his robot lion.

This one's sloppy and quick but I wanted to draw Shiro as an Altean, one of the alien races in the show.

My next update should have more variety and some traditional art. I thought I had more from the beginning of the year, but maybe a lot of it was messy sketches that I just never got around to scanning.

Catching the End of 2016

We're closing in on me being up-to-date with the drawings I post here, as these are all that's left from my 2016 folder. That's exciting but also a bit intimidating because soon I'll need to be sure to draw regularly so that this blog has regular content.

Fittingly this entry will be a mix of content. Great way to complete a year of art I think.

Christmas gift for a friend; his hyena character as a Jedi

My first real attempt at the Voltron: Legendary Defender version of Keith, also a gift for a friend. He's cute, it was fun!

Yet another Christmas gift for a Levi/Hanji Secret Santa exchange on Tumblr. My giftee also likes Star Wars, so I rolled with it. They'd be great Jedi.

Saved this for last, since it took the most work. It was part of Shiro week, and the prompt was "Black Lion", which of course is the lion he pilots. I designed a "human" type look for the Black Lion a while ago and decided to use her for the drawing.

This is the Black Lion in case anyone needs a point of reference:

The symbolism is how she protects him and works with him and accepts all of him, including the parts of himself he hates (like his alien cyborg arm).

So that concludes 2016's art! Onto 2017 with the next entry.

The Voltron Favorite

Note: The third and final drawing in this entry will have some violent content

In case I haven't made it totally obvious, Shiro is my favorite character in Voltron: Legendary Defender. I relate to him on many levels and he's just so pretty. So here's a mini-dump of some of the (several) drawings I did of him last year.

For Shiro Week: A very young Shiro before he joined the Galaxy Garrison and went to Kerberos

Last fall the Voltron art team released a limited lithograph with every single character from season one of the show... and also these weird floating poofs. I thought they were cute so I drew Shiro with a few.

Drawing with some blood below

Another Shiro Week prompt. "Champion". I based it on his first battle in the arena, which is where I think the scar came from.
