Week 17 Is Paid Sillyness

I'm doing a series of three caricature drawings... and being paid for it! My awesome client also said it's totally awesome if I use progress images for this week's art blog, so here's the line art for the first drawing, which is over her parents. Yes, it will be colored, as will the other two. It's my goal to have at least two of the three done by this time next week.

Week 16 Lays Its Weary Head To Rest

That couldn't be a more fitting title if it tried. I am so tired of working on this and have other things to do, so I'm throwing my hands up and calling it finished. It pretty much all went down hill when I tried to color it with alcohol-based markers and found out that sharpies are not resistant to them. I fixed it as best my patience would allow. I don't think I'm going to even post it on my DeviantArt account.

There'll be Peace When Week 16 Is Done

Actually no there won't because Finals are the week after this, and then the week after that I'm moving... assuming I have somewhere to live. But it goes with the song from the last title.

Guess who slacked off all weekend and didn't bother inking Sam or sketching Dean until about an hour ago. Nope, totally not this person.

Dean's crotch is too high up. Must fix.

Week 16 Carries On My Wayward Son

The good thing about the anime style, often sloppy though it is, is the bold black shading that it uses. This will make my job incredibly easy. I haven't started Dean yet, probably because I'm saving the most beautiful character for last.

Also, I have school work to show off this time!

For my final project in Advanced Painting, I chose to try a portrait of my art heroine, Frida Kahlo. It's coming along well, and I'm well aware of the oddities in her facial anatomy right now. They will be corrected soon but the lighting looks nice right now.

This is my second-to-last print for my Printmaking class, another intaglio. It's another case of me going where I was emotionally led and not caring about the implications.

Week 16 Has Free Will

That title probably only makes sense if you're really into the TV show Supernatural. That's okay, because that's the subject of this week's project.

I started watching the anime adaptation of the show over the weekend and while the animation quality is cheap and the whole thing is cheesier than the Tillamook Dairy, I'm quite enjoying it. I haven't done something overly "anime" styled in a while so I decided to try my hand at the show's style.

The short woman is a female version of Castiel (who isn't in the anime). Dean will be added shortly.

Week 15 Would Not be on HGTV

You'll probably need to click on the image to enlarge it enough to see much. I compiled them all into one for the sake of space, and for the sake of keeping them together on other websites.

The bottom one is how I imagined that the character living there had attempted to personalize the space. It helps that her boyfriend is an artist, but she's not especially wealthy, either. The toilet and table have changed colors because, like the bedding, it was just a matter of buying something different to cover them with.

The pattern under the bed is a stock pattern from here.

Week 15 With A Side of Ed

I've actually decided not to do the other wall view for the living cubicle since finals loom ever nearer and my free time is noticeably decreasing. I will, however, be doing a separate labeled and colored version of this drawing.

To keep things interesting, here's a ten-minute sketch I did of Ed from "Ed, Edd, and Eddy" to help me loosen up before drawing some other things.

Week 15 Is Sketchy

This week for the sake of expanding my portfolio I'm going to do some environment designs for the living quarters of a sci-fi character of mine. In the end there will be two versions - one black and white with labels to show a basic room, and one colored with her own belongings to make it more personal. I'll do a drawing of the opposite wall separately, since it has several electronics on it.

Week 14 Is A Good Student

Look at it, finishing its assignment early and everything.

Also someone has a really, really bright carpet in their house.

Week 14... I Got Nothin'

Just plugging along with life an art. I'm not planning on a complex background, just a rug of some neutral color and maybe some furniture legs near the back of the drawing to give him something of an environment. The drawing board's perspective off but I can't be bothered with it. It's a leisurely drawing.

I was going to post a link to my reference image but then I realized the sources may not be Safe For Work (don't look at me like that, I found it while searching for anatomy references on Tumblr). So here's a link to the image by itself and not in a webpage.

Week 14 - Art-Ception!

This week I'm drawing a character who is drawing. Since I'm eager to start inking I just took a photo here at the school. Somehow everything is... bluish. I also wanted to attempt a different angle for anatomy practice's sake. I'll post my reference next time.

And more Liam Neeson-in progress goodness. I'm rather pleased with his shirt and aside from defining the edges better I have no intentions of touching it further and ruining it.

Week 13's Hell Fire

And here she is in all of her obnoxious mental birth-control glory. I scrapped the shopping cart because neither of the others have a background or anything interactive. That and I'm ready to move onto something else.

Now I need to find a way to relax and enjoy the rest of my weekend because I also finished an impressive amount of homework and I deserve it.

Week 13: Some Colored Silliness

Ellie and I are now colored in all our silly-looking glory. I see no need for anything besides flat coloring, partly because my usual method of shading wouldn't work and partly because I still have one more to color and would rather not over-do it. Also I decided to add the shopping cart lines on the last one in SAI. Can't be bothered with trying to make straight edges in pencil and ink.

Week 13: A Howling Toddler and Liam Neeson

The bottom half of this seed of the underworld isn't cooperating so I'll draw her clutching the handle of the shopping cart and call it good. I'll also give the cart behind her more detail so it doesn't look like she's in a roller coaster. That would have been an acceptable reason for the unholy racket she was making.

I finished inking the other two drawings but they don't look much different than the last update. I will be coloring them digitally for the sake of tidiness and some people want prints of some of them.

Liam Neeson was not at the grocery store last Monday, but maybe if he had been the toddler would have been so in awe of his awesomeness that she shut up. Either that or my cousins and I would have been so distracted by his handsome visage that we wouldn't have noticed the constant siren wails.

I like how his face is coming along.

Week 13's Silly Artist and Silly Cat

Despite only doing one idea sketch of my "self portrait", I went ahead with the actual drawing. It was actually incredibly relaxing and entertaining. Emphasizing certain features doesn't damage self esteem as much as you might expect. Actually it makes them easier to accept.

This isn't inked yet, but I started the drawing of Ellie, too. I think she needs to be fluffier and goofier. Before anyone gets offended by her eyes, I drew them that way because A) I'm exaggerating a feature she already has and B) it's a cute detail.

Week 13 Gets Silly

As (sorta) promised, here are actual updates for Week 13. This week "officially" started Monday art-wise since that's when I started doing silly sketch ideas for what I hope will be a collection of 3 caricatures by the week's end. Inspired by a hilarious blog called Books of Adam I thought I would expand a little and try making living things look ridiculous but still recognizable. These aren't the finished work, but the best of the concept scribbles I did in my sketchbook.

The first victim is my aunt's Persian Ellie, who's goofy looking even by Persian standards.

The second victim pretty much asked for it. When I was out shopping with friends recently there was this child in the store who screeched like something unleashed from the very chasms of hell. This continued for quite some time despite all hopes that she would hyperventilate and pass out.

I will be doing myself for the third but only have one idea sketch thus far that I think can be improved upon. I'll start the actual sketches next.

Week 13 Will Return After These Messages

While I have started doing concept sketches for this week's art project, none of them have been scanned and none of the actual drawings have been started. I am not without new artwork, however, so here's some things I've been doing for Painting and Printmaking to hold you over until tomorrow.

Since I can't remember if I showed the more or less finished version of the Crime and Punishment painting on here yet or not, here it is... possibly for the second time. The rim of the mug needs fixed but other than that I'm pretty satisfied.

I've also started my next painting which is sort of... corny... but eh. It's portrait practice, obviously of Liam Neeson with some North Irish landscape in the background, since that's where the man hails from. I also haven't touched it since last Wednesday because I played hooky yesterday.

Last is my latest print, which is polyester lithography and I'm too tired to go into the long explanation of how it works. Google would probably do better, but here's a photo of the plate I drew on (Bottom) and one of the prints that came off of it (top). The teacher mentioned at midterms that my prints have an angry theme (gee I wonder why?), so might as well keep going in that direction.
