Week Twenty Six is Still Kicking

Fear not, for this week's drawing has not died. It's being worked on between actual work and writing for the August edition of Camp National Novel Writer's Month, though Aleron being one of the characters in said novel certainly helps.

His eye isn't colored yet because he's based on an Asian jointed doll I own with two different colored eyes. One's green and one's blue but I honestly can't remember which is which and the box isn't within my reach right now. And I'm lazy.

Anyway, he's almost done. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have time to do finish his hair at least.

Week Twenty Six Drags Along

His arms are still in the wrong place - way off from where his elbow should be - but we'll get there. In the meantime his hands have come a lot closer to being finished and he's actually holding things now! I'd like to work on his hair next as a reprieve from his fingers and skin, but I'd also like to get that other hand out of the way. I guess we'll see?

Crawling Back With Week Twenty Six

So if this had been done right and I really had been completing a drawing or other work of art every week this year, Week Twenty Six would have been back in mid-June. Obviously this did not happen as Week Twenty Six is happening at the beginning of August and is somehow starting on a Thursday. Oh well. Life and creativity can do that sometimes.

As I ease back into finishing a Weekly Artwork with only a few weeks left until school starts (perhaps not the best idea), I go the digital route yet again with a character of my own. He's from the novel that I'm attempting for the August edition of Camp National Novel Writer's Month. His name is Aleron and he has some alien DNA in him, hence the odd hair. He's also based on a doll that I've owned for a few years of the same name.

Week Twenty-Five is Also a Doll

And for this week I worked on more dolls. But no hair rooting this time, which was healthy for my sanity. This time I bought two Fashionista Ken dolls by Mattel (because I'm spoiled and like dolls with joints) and customized their hair and faces.

The first doll is meant to look like Alfred Jones/USA from Hetalia, but I lack glasses that actually fit him. That's also why his eyes are so large - was trying to achieve something of an "anime" look without them taking up half his face.

The other is something I've been meaning to do for a while; I wanted to customize a doll to resemble Hugh Jackman as The Drover from the movie "Australia". While it's by no means perfect (there's a limit on what I know how to do), I think it looks great for my first time adding facial hair to a doll. 

Below is more or less what they looked like before. Except that I'd already started on the blonde doll's hair when I took that photo.

Weeks 23 and 24 Didn't Really Happen

And since they didn't happen, here's some scribbles from the weeks between 22 and now. Life's been hectic around here, and inspiration always suffers for it, but here's hoping things will chill out and art can resume as normal. 

Week 22 Was a Doll

I did, in fact, do this the week after 21, but never got around to putting it up here. Anyway, most of my creative energy that week was spent manually inserting hair strands into a doll's head (which took about two days and probably ten hours between the two), cutting it, styling it, and then putting a face on said doll. It took enough work that I'm totally counting it as art.

Week Twenty-One is Crafty

This week wasn't for drawing so much, but that doesn't mean it lacked creative endeavors. I made the origami boxes above for an upcoming party, and also made this doll room and box shown below:

They're to scale for 12 inch dolls. Here's one in the room before it and the blanket were done:

Next week I'm hoping to actually draw something complex.
