All Line Up

Okay, this looks loads better now that it's inked and the figures are done. I'm currently undecided on how much of a background it'll have even though I know what Ivan's office looks like (In my head of course, not officially).

Also, Lien is wearing a shirt that I saw online. Isn't it pretty? I'm currently undecided on how I'll do the pattern, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Right now I'm just pleased that I made it to the inking stage.

Random fact: In Vietnam it's a tradition that only the mother may touch an infant for thirty days after he/she is born. That'd be frustrating.

Educational Sketching

It may not have come up before, but I really enjoy art projects that require me to do research along the way, usually in the conceptualizing/sketch phase of it. In this case, through rather random inspiration, I decided that I wanted to do something complex of the Hetalia personification of Vietnam.

I was watching a movie with Chinese actress Gong Li in it, and this gave way to wanting to draw Vietnam... somehow. Anyway, since I want this drawing to be mindful of the actual country and its culture, so I looked up photos of the Vietnamese traditional dress called an Ao Dai, as well as what colors mean in that culture so I could choose them well. Green standing for lust really threw me for a loop, but you learn something new every day.

This probably also hasn't come up before, but flowers are not on my list of favorite things to draw, so drawing, inking, and coloring several of them for her dress should be... interesting.

Week 21: Chill Pill

First, thank you to everyone for your feedback on Friday's entry! I did receive more than the comments here, as I also post links to my entries on my Twitter (which is private, so I'm not giving the name). All of your words were immensely helpful.

As was pointed out by a couple of you, this needs to be less of a chore. So this week I'm taking a sort of break. Yes, I am still drawing, but not going to force myself to complete anything. This week will be dedicated to sketching and conceptualizing and having fun.

One thing I've started doing is going on a daily walk and then finding a bench downtown to sit on and draw my surroundings. I posted the first page of these on Friday, and did more yesterday. Yesterday also happened to be the Farmer's Market, so there was more to see than usual.

There was also more making of the clay food yesterday:
...and some sketching in Open Canvas because Photoshop has gone on strike and I've yet to get it working again. I'm not fond of Open Canvas. A lot of what it does makes no sense. But I sketched the personification of Vietnam from Hetalia.
The week will continue much like this. I'll just be sketching/drawing/crafting as I see fit and then post the results. This is going to be fun. :)
