Because Variety is Spicy - Some Attack on Titan Spoilers

*Spoiler-related art will be at the very end for the sake of courtesy

Last entry I mentioned a fanartist and the Voltron contest she won with a monster design. I really enjoy drawing the little guy with Shiro and she likes art of him with Shiro so it all works out. Also the pillbug is really fun to draw.

Also continuing with the official Voltron twitter giving the characters birthdays, Shiro's is on February 29th. That being the case they held an event on the 28th this year instead. My humble contribution is similar to my Hunk birthday drawing where he gets a small, cuddly version of his mecha lion. And a nap. Because he needs one.

I need to start updating this thing more frequently so I can stop having to see months-old art and spot every single anatomy error when I upload them. But I also don't want to over-load everyone so I'll need to find a happy medium somewhere.

*Attack on Titan Spoilers Follow*

In one of the recent story arcs in the Attack on Titan manga, Hanji sustained an injury that cost her an eye. Being the long-time nerd that I am, I was reminded of Roy Mustang at the end of the first Fullmetal Alchemist anime series and reacted accordingly. I actually really like this one still.

Newsflash: I Am Still Bad at Titles

Will I ever be good at titles? No. Moving on.

I saw this dress on a random website and thought it would look great on Hanji. And I was right. Somehow I end up not drawing full body images as often as I should.

More Erwin-dedicated art, this time I wanted to draw his dad. I've drawn him before and it was fun, and the second go was as well. Had to use a reference for his arms but I like how they turned out.

I believe this was for Halloween, but my favorite Attack On Titan couple dressed as my favorite TV couple, Bob and Linda Belcher (Bob's Burgers).

Also as I post this, it's only a few days until Attack on Titan Season 2 starts. I am not ready for this.

Feeling Like A Time Traveller

The last entry was miscellaneous artwork that didn't fall into one of two fan art categories, so from here on it's going to mostly fan art going back to the earlier I have for 2016 up until the most recent. It's going to be an experience looking through my folders and finding things from roughly a year ago and thinking back to my motivations and my mental state when I made them.

This entry will be all Attack on Titan fan arts of varying crossover or Alternate Reality setting.

The first is from a Role Play with a friend where Levi is a shark merman and Hanji is a marine biologist. She rescues him from a tide pool one day and they hit it off from there.

I now remember how difficult it was to make Hanji look right after Levi turned out exactly how I wanted. She still doesn't look totally how I want, but it's been a year and the original drawing is now hanging on someone's wall.

In 2015 I discovered and fell in love with Steven Universe. A friend turned me onto it and I grew to love these strange characters that were aliens made of gems (Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl, etc.)

Considering my obsession with Attack on Titan, it was only a matter of time before a friend and I did a crossover of the two. For my part, I decided to try designing Levi as a gem and settled on an Obsidian. My first design in 2015 was... bad. But early 2016 I tried again with far better results.

Role-playing with this version of Levi even inspired me to try digitally painting a background for the first time in... forever. And reminded me why I hate plants so much. Let me just say I'm glad plants are edible so I can eat them out of spite/revenge.

Although looking at it now I'm also acutely aware that I should try a complex background again sometime soon. Having the motivation will be much easier without trying to hastily throw one together for a webcomic page each week.

I haven't yet decided what intervals I'll post blog entries at. Weekly? Twice a week? Who knows. I'm just rolling with it for now.

See you next time!

Week 35: Fictional Birthday

It was a week of major artistic blockage... and then yesterday I remembered that a fictional character has her birthday on the 5th of this month (Friday!) so I decided to celebrate with a nice, quick sketch. It's Hanji from Attack on Titan, the lovable eccentric scientist soldier.

Week 31: Wardrobe and Hairstyle Change

After watching some clips from the Little Mermaid I realized that hair under water tends to move more together than to fan out and be more annoying to draw. I also realized that the starfish pasties looked really stupid and were totally impractical. So instead she has half a tube top made of kelp.

Week 31.2

Sadly I'm lacking the focus to finish inking this today, but I'm impressed with how much is done.

Week 31: Under the Sea

This crazy fan art idea has been in my head for a while. Friends and I were discussing Attack on Titan characters as mer-folk and I decided that brainy and curious scientist Hanji would make a great octopus. They're super smart and curious and just fascinating so it suits her.

As for the glasses: Some poor old lady probably forgot them on the beach and Hanji snatched them up. Does she need them? No, but they make things look different and interesting so she keeps them. They're also a sort of prize for sneaking up on the beach unnoticed.

Week 5 KISS-es Again

Every time I sat down to get serious about this week's drawing, something did not flow. Three scrapped papers and countless attempts later, I decided to use the Keep It Simple, Stupid method again and just let the drawing do what it liked. Apparently what it liked was for me to do a simple profile sketch of this character because her nose is awesome.

Once I loosened up and stopped stressing about an awesome pose or some sort of background, this turned out to be fun and relaxing. There's actually a distinct possibility of me trying another drawing with her in it for Week 6. We'll see.
