Week 25 Is Homeward Bound

Starz came home this evening. First she pouted under Mom's bed, and then after I forced medication down her she pouted out on the balcony. Now she's sitting just a little ways from me on the sofa and not quite ready to forgive. Hopefully that will change tonight and she'll end up sleeping with me.

Week 25 - Sweet Child O' Mine

For the last three days my dearest kitty Starz has been at the vet recovering from a month-long hunger strike. During that time I've force fed her, took her to a different vet twice who didn't help her much, and over-all worried and stressed until it became clear she was dying and something drastic had to happen. I miss her terribly and am hoping to bring her home this weekend.

Since she's pretty much constantly on my mind and I would like to have a nice piece of art as a thank you to the animal hospital staff once she's better, I dedicate Week 25 to a portrait of her. I'm going with digital media since that will make it easier to blend and show her lovely colors.

Week 24 Can Lead A Horse To Water

We should all be grateful that I only updated three times for this one. Otherwise the puns would have been much worse.

This is actually a big leap from the last progress image, but rather than finishing the background right now I decided that pacing myself more and coloring it tomorrow was best.

Note: Don't actually put collars on your guinea pigs. It's not good for them.

Week 24 Horses Around

It's going to be a personal goal to find all the dumb horse phrases I can for this week's titles.

Anyway, for style variation practice (and for fun) I decided to try myself as a pony again. This time I'm going with a design that's more my own, as opposed to last time using the adorable design that a friend did of me. She still has her guinea pig name Squeak though, and I decided to name the pony Amethyst Glow, because all the art-related names I came up with were really dumb.

And yes, there will be a background on this one. I've been too lazy with those of late.

Week 23 Finale

Week 23 Swings Its Partner

I was able to relax and focus and finish sketching and then ink it while watching a square dancing club do its thang last night. No, I didn't participate. My dancing skills are like unto a fish flailing and jerking around on dry land trying to get back to water.

Week 23 Is Sluggish

There are yet more wrenches in the works of my life, but I'll spare you the details and show you what I've managed to start after erasing and starting over more times than I care to count. Something simple and sappy.

Week 22's Belated Finish

It has become apparent that I need to work on some fancy, proper logo for this in Illustrator. But not right now. Right now this needs to be done so I can move on with life. All-in-all it turned out pretty decent.

Week 22 Will Have a Grace Period

To be fair I did spend the weekend moving my possessions for the 3rd time in about a month's time, and hopefully for the last time for quite a while. This being the case, I think it's fair to give myself 8 days to finish this rather than 7, but Week 23 will only have 6 days to be completed.

Also the thorns were tedious and a terrible idea, but now that they're on, they're staying.

Week 22 Was Distracted

I spent the weekend transferring into a two bedroom apartment from our previous one bedroom with my mom, so suffice to say it was a hot, sweaty, exhausting weekend and I didn't do much in the way of creativity. Tonight, however, I sat myself down, did some crafts, and inked most of the drawing.

Week 22 Has Coverage

A few weeks ago I cam to a brilliant realization - I actually have time to start a graphic novel! I'm not going back to school in the fall, and I just started a part time job (though I'm still looking for full time). I can work on a story through the summer and don't have to stop when fall comes because there will be no classes and no homework to stop me.

So, that being said, this week is dedicated to creating a conceptual cover for the first volume. I don't want to give away much other than that it's a vigilante story, and if you were checking on my blog last December, you've already had a preview to the story.

It's also been a few weeks since I've done digital artwork, so it felt like time to return to that.

Week 21 Is Expressive

Despite how much running around I did today, I was able to sit down for a while and finish up. "Sad" isn't an expression Bit has very often. Her usual default "not happy" mood is angry. Maybe that's why drawing her with that expression felt so unnatural. This is also the most I've drawn her without a cigarette.

Week 21 is Gasping For Air

I apologize for the lack of updates over the last few days. Things were busy and exhausting, as they will be this coming weekend as well. Sigh.

Oh well. This is a blog about art, not  usually about my crazy life. That being the case, I made myself take a seat at the table today and draw more Bit faces. I decided to take it down to five different expressions rather than six in the interest of space and of finishing it by tomorrow night.
