Week 26 Squeezes In

I seem to be cutting it closer and closer with actually starting and finishing the artwork every week. Next week I could just end up throwing something together an hour before midnight but hopefully that won't be the case.

It's been a while since I did something all digital, so I took that route this time. Well, more or less. It is digital but I'm using a different method than usual and it's working in my favor. I am using a references but I'll share a link to that once the drawing is done.

Week 25

Somehow I spent longer coloring this than I did sketching or inking it. It was great practice anyway, since I haven't colored anything with just pencil in quite a while. It's labor intensive and I often struggle with them, but it turned out nice.

I also just realized that I am not on the correct week. It should probably bee week 26 or 27. Not sure how I lost track of that but I'll just keep doing what I'm doing.

Week 25: Here to Help

I absolutely love the Animal Crossing game archive and last year I received New Leaf for my birthday. I still play almost every day, and it's wonderfully therapeutic. I love the re-appearance of old characters and the new ones that showed up in the game, especially the secretary Isabelle. She's just so cheery and adorable and I've been meaning to draw her for a while, so I finally made myself.

I don't know why I procrastinated so much when the sketch only took me ten minutes. I originally planned to do this digitally but traditional is just how it ended up. Hopefully coloring won't take me long either

Week 24: Skip a Step

I did actually scan the inked version of this but it was nothing to write home about, so I opted to not blog again until I'd finished it. His pose was awkward in the pencil version since his far hand was just... there... so I gave it a purpose. It also completes the look of how I have him in Animal Crossing: New Leaf since he has a black jacket on. Opted out of the shades because I wanted to draw his eyes but maybe it would have looked better with them. Oops.

Week 24: Fashionable

I have a character on Animal Crossing: New Leaf who is made to look like a Hetalia character, using a Wii Mii for his head since the game itself doesn't have the hair I want. Recently there was a kilt in the clothing store, so I jumped on that and now he wears it. I love it so I'm trying to draw him in it for this week. So far there are a lot of awkward points about it, but I'm hopeful.

Week 23 Looks Good Enough to Sit In

It actually looks pretty decent without any sort of pattern. No background alas, but I already started Week 24 so we'll call it good. It was healthy practice if nothing else.

Week 23 - Warmth

I sat down on Thursday night and realized that the perspective and proportions were all horribly wrong. Apparently sketching out works much better for me than rough blobs. This looks a lot better.

Also, if you're wondering just how obnoxiously complicated the fabric pattern is, here's a close up. I love this print, but there is no way on this earth I am replicating it for this drawing. Maybe some simplified pattern with a similar color, but definitely not this.

Week 23: Study in Red and Wingback

My aunt and uncle had this awesome chair, and when they moved into their new house they didn't want to bother with finding space for it, so it was passed onto me. I love this chair, too. I mean look at this thing. How can you not love it?

I haven't done any still life studies in a long time, and definitely none that took longer than ten minutes, so I decided this week to try and polish my skill a little by doing a digital painting whenever I'm home and have time. Since I started a new full time summer job this week, this might prove difficult. We'll see what happens.

PS: if you think I am going to draw the pattern you are sadly mistaken

Week 22: Goodnight Sweet Prince

Somehow this week I didn't get around to posting any progress, but it's done now.

Near the beginning of May my brother's 17 year old cat, Sonic, passed away. I wasn't there and don't live close enough to pay my respects in person, so I did it in my own way. He was part of my life for several years while our family still lived together and I'm going to miss him.

Sonic always looked unimpressed, as I suppose life in general did not impress him unless there was a tuna can being opened or a ball of aluminum foil on the floor. Even laser pointers bored him.

He was also not especially social, but he wasn't mean either. He was indifferent to the existence of most humans save for my brother. Being graced with his presence on your lap was a big deal, especially if you got him to purr. Unless, again, you were my brother. Because my brother was his favorite thing.

I always enjoyed his aloof passive-aggression, and enjoyed picking him up just to annoy him with belly rubs. Seriously he had the fluffiest spotted tummy. And it was irresistibly round. It demanded rubbing.
