Week 17 Completion

Looking at this now, I've decided it was well worth it to dedicate a week to the background alone. It looks great! Probably my favorite of my digital backgrounds so far. Maybe landscapes aren't as terrifying and boring as I thought they were.

Week 17 Coming Together

There's something satisfying about seeing the drawing at this stage with the character actually in the setting. ...that's about all I've got. Oops. It's not done yet.

Week 17 Makes Like a Tree

...oh come on, I'm doing a landscape. I had to make at least one dumb joke about it. More are completely possible.

This step actually took a while because I did a layer of shadows and highlights and then realized that it looked completely terrible and lazy. Then I re-did it and highlighted/shaded everything separately with specific matching pallets. It looks a lot better.

Week 17: Scenic Route

Backgrounds are not my strong point, especially not landscape-y backgrounds. But I really want some pretty "happy little trees" for last week's drawing. So I'm taking the plunge and dedicating a week to making something that will hopefully be nice and at least moderately believable. Painting class don't fail me now...

Week 16 Retraces Its Steps

Yesterday I had another look at the digitally inked version of this drawing and I totally hated it. So today I inked it on paper and then went ahead and colored it.

However, it's the last day of Week 16 and the background didn't happen. So instead I'll spend Week 17 trying to make a decent forest-y digital painting to put behind him. Works for me.

Week 16 Line-Up

I think if I can avoid it, I will not ink any hand-drawn sketches digitally again. It took me hours to do this, but by hand it might take 20-30 minutes. My hands shake too much for me to do well with my tablet pen apparently.

Week 16 Shows Some Skin

The turtle-neck type shirt looked awful so forget that thing. Last time I drew him with a bow he was shirtless so we might as well keep that up.

I'll check for anatomy errors tomorrow but for now I'm just excited to have the base sketch done before I add color and stick him in a tree.

Week 16 On the Prowl

I'm doing more fanart this time but also using it for some pose and background practice. I also wanted do something with archery since it's been well over a year since my last attempt. Unfortunately,  I didn't make it very far yet. I only like his head and ended up erasing all but that after I scanned this.

The earring was inspired by a friend of mine who mentioned that through history archers have pierced their ears to improve balance/eyesight. Something to do with acupuncture I think?

Week 15: I Still Don't Know

So however ambitious I may have been on Tuesday last week it's gone for the moment. Somehow I lost interest in this one but resolved to at least finish a simplified version of it. I also started a new part time job on Monday so that may be part of it.

It's a cute little graphic if nothing else and I did need practice with this sort of thing. Maybe if the motivation ever strikes I can make a high-quality version as a t-shirt graphic.

Week 15: I Don't Know What's Going On

...and I'm okay with admitting it.

I started out wanting to try some tattoo designs to maybe sell to some local shops or websites, but then I started drawing one (which I'm not done with) and it looks more like a t-shirt graphic so far. So I dunno, I'll just roll with it.

I hate drawing roses.

Week 14

The art bug was biting hard today so I not only finished this but did several other sketches and started some concepts for Week 15, which I will post tomorrow.

I briefly considered leaving his hands white, but then it just looked like they were unfinished.

Week 14: Eagle

Upon seeing the giant-looking handgun a friend of mine said Duke should have a Desert Eagle. Guys really like those for some reason, so I figured why not. They're also relatively simply to draw as far as guns go. Plus one of his arms is cybernetic so it could handle the recoil... then again his shoulder is not. Whatever.

Week 14: Look the Other Way

Drawing another original character re-design this week, sort of as a match for last week. Maybe eventually I'll do other characters, but for now it's just Kat (last week) and Duke.

Like Kat he's not wearing his "official" outfit but what he wears under it. I also decided to emphasize his weapon of choice like I did hers (her hands). It's kinda weird drawing him from an angle where you can't see his eye patch. He looks about ten years younger.

Also that gun is way too big, good grief.
